From 18 to 20 June, Auction House Bernaerts is organising another auction with full focus on Old and Romantic Masters from the 16th to 19th centuries.

Works can still be submitted to this auction until 19 April. Below is an overview of the pieces already included.

Within the Old Masters, we can already count some masterpieces, such as a man’s portrait from 1544 attributable to Bartholomeus I Bruyn, a tumultuous Carrying of the Cross attributable to Master of Paul and Barnabas or the Christ on the Cross by an anonymous artist from the circle of Maerten de Vos.

17th-century rural life is also featured with a kitchen scene attributable to Adriaen Boogaert, a landscape with village in the distance by Abraham Govaerts or an exciting robbery by Pieter Molenaer.

Gustave Vanaise (1854-1902).

Where the Romantic Masters take over, we can already cite work by Gustave Vanaise, depicting William Key hearing the Duke of Alva ordering the execution of the counts of Egmont and Horne. Ferdinand Roybet also refers back to the 17th century, with his portrait of (probably) Anthony Van Dyck.

In addition, one can choose between ‘La volupté’ by Jef Lambeaux, a tall candle holder with standing angel by Jules Graux, an interior scene by Henri Leys, a pendant with cows and donkeys in the dunes by Henri Schouten or yet dogs in the dunes by Piet van Engelen, to name but a few.

If you have works from this period that you would like to add to this catalogue, we ask you to get in touch by 19 April. Our experts will also come on site.

You can reach us by sending your message to info@bernaerts.be. Preferably, you also provide us with photos of the works to be estimated.
