The interest in almost all pieces from this admittedly small but diverse season opener (90% sold) proved to be significant. A brief report with hammer prices (excl. commission).<\/p>\n

One of the surprises was the \u20ac17,000 bid for an anonymous, presumably South American 1742 dated \u201cSanta Ana\u201d, estimated around \u20ac1,000 (lot 14). A work by Antoine Mortier, \u201cA ma m\u00e8re\u201d (brush in ink, 1961), also easily surpassed its highest estimate (lot 193, result: \u20ac28,000).
With a nod from Antwerp-based Jos Schippers, \u201cAu Mus\u00e9e des Anc\u00eatres\u201d, a work from 1927 (lot 26, result: \u20ac6,000), a few classical paintings were offered, which sold surprisingly well.<\/p>\n

On behalf of a Danish curator, paintings by Carl Bloch changed hands: \u201cLandleven\u201d (lot 39, from 1857) and \u201cLaat de kinderen tot Mij komen\u201d (lot 29) for \u20ac17,000 and \u20ac13,000 respectively. A \u201cDorpsfeest\u201d by Klaas Molenaer reached \u20ac10,000 (lot 10). A view of Fredensborg by Monsted achieved \u20ac11,000, while a cityscape by Laurent Redig (lot 31) was auctioned for \u20ac6,000, against a landscape by Willem Koekkoek at \u20ac16,000 (lot 32).<\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_column_text]Around 40 lots by well-known designers from the 1950s-70s were presented, with special attention to Hans J. Wegner, represented by the rare \u201cCube Bar\u201d from 1956 (lot 161, result: \u20ac3,500) and the modular \u201cRegalsystem RY 100\u201d from 1955, manufactured by Rybo (lot 160, result: \u20ac2,400). The set of four chairs, which became iconic for their use during the 1960 Kennedy-Nixon debate, also sold smoothly (lot 158, result: \u20ac8,500).[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”25946″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner equal_height=”yes”][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26499″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image image=”26502″ img_size=”full” add_caption=”yes”][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Results from other designers: Nanna Ditzel (lot 172, result: \u20ac5,000), Ib Kofod-Larsen (lot 170, result: \u20ac2,600), Arne Norell (lot 178, result: \u20ac2,400), Paco Rabanne (lot 225, result: \u20ac9,500), Osvaldo Borsani (lot 194, result: \u20ac4,600).<\/p>\n

Among the modern works, a beautifully painted \u201cWinter aan de Leie\u201d by Maurice Sys (lot 128, result: \u20ac15,000) and a similarly executed \u201cBloemenveld te Drongen\u201d by the rarely seen Elvire Coisne (lot 132, result: \u20ac12,000) stood out. A pair of bronze sculptures by Jos De Decker fetched \u20ac14,000 (lot 125), while a striking aquatint measuring no less than 196 x 276 cm, \u201cDoor m\u2019n Venster\u201d by Fred Bervoets, was the cherry on top, selling for \u20ac14,000\u2014twice its estimate.<\/p>\n
