A sale of about 600 lots of which 400 found a buyer. Spring has arrived at Bernaerts. A short survey of some remarkable results, excl. buyer's premium.
The 'Jeux de cour au XVème siècle' by Albrecht De Vriendt (lot 37)), estimated 7500-10000 euros, left the block at 9000, whereas a beautiful girl's portrait by Jules-Joseph Lefèbvre (lot 19) was sold for 5500 euros.
An historical very important lot was the large painting by Louis Van Engelen of sunny afternoon on the left bank of the river Scheld (lot 36), selling for 92000 euros after a hars batle between a bidder in the room and one on the phone.
A small but choice collection of Chinese porcelain evoked some examplary bidding batles. A couple of small vases with a design after Cornelius Pronk in Famille Rose (lot 143), sold for a stunning 16000 euros. A large Guangxu vase (lot 191) however took the lead with 36000 euros.
On the side of the sculptures the 'Gloria Victis' by Antonin Mercié (lot 59) was victorious at 9000 euros.
'At the docks', a canvas by Eugeen Van Mieghem (lot 274) finally made it to 17000 euros.
