Karel Appel (1921-2006). 'Bewegend gezicht'. Est.: € 20000-25000

A variety of goods on offer, that is the least that can be said of this spring auction.
A selection of the highlights below.

We start with an extensive range of archaeological finds, from Egypt, Etruria and China, among others. Following that, we offer 15th- and 16th-century wooden statues of saints, alongside classical silverware. Among the Romantic Masters, we cite the likes of Paul Huet, Jean-Baptist Gibert, Hendrik Schaeffels and Jan Frans Portaels. The 20th century, in turn, is represented by Hippolyte Daeye, Henri Victor Wolvens, Karel Appel (with a ‘pastuous’ oil on panel), Klaas Gubbels, Floris Jespers (including two back-glass paintings of his recognisable clowns), Philippe Vandenberg, Jan Vercruysse, Kees Van Bohemen and consorts.

Hendrik Schaefels (1827-1904). Fish market, Antwerp, 1872. Est.: € 6000-8000
Floris Jespers (1889-1965). Clown with bowtie, 1929. Est.: € 12000-15000

At the Werk op Papier sessions, we mention above all the original works by Eugeen Van Mieghem, Jules De Bruycker, Paul Joostens, Paul Klee and four ink drawings by Rik Wouters. Furthermore, we offer a beautiful original design by Jean-Michel Folon, for the poster of Europalia France 1975. Also on offer is a very extensive series of Fred Bervoets prints (almost all from one and the same private collection), sketches by Marcel Mariën, in addition to original work by Eline Rausenberger, René Heyvaert, Thomas Rajlich, Jose De Guimaraes, Christian Dotremont, Ben Sledsens, Rinus Van de Velde and Michaël Borremans.

Jean-Michel Folon (1934-2005). Untitled (design for poster Europalia France 1975), 1976. Est.: € 4000-5000
Eugeen Van Mieghem (1875-1930). Beautiful company. Est.: € 5000-7000
