On this two day sale, much of the attention was drawn to the Old Masters part, more in particular by the cover (lot 131), a large animated village scene by Breughel and Balten. This large canvas, most probable to trace back to the Flemish town of Mechelen around 1650, left the room 48.000 euros. A mythological canvas after Rubens (lot 47A), finally got hammered for 9000 euros and leaving thereby, as for the large Breughel canvas, for a promising career abroad. A small but refined portrait attributed to Maton (lot 107) was sold in the room for 4000 euros. Other results worth mentioning are Adam-Frans van der Meulen (lot 210A) and a biblical scene after Marten de Vos (lot 36), selling resp. For 6500 and 6000 euros.
On the side of the 19th and 20th century paintings a typical riverside view by Gustave de Smet (lot 439) sold for a well earned 11.000 euros. A romantic scene by David Col (lot 261) proved to be very much sought after and left the block for 7500 euros.
On the side of the applied arts and furniture the highest bid was taken for an Antwerp cabinet (lot 88) for 11.000 euros. Other results worth mentioning: an Egyptian torso, probably 26th dynasty (lot 149), left the room for 5400 euros, while a relic holder with crucifix from about 1700 climbed up to 6500 euros.
