The spring auction which will be held in March 2019 will focus on the 20th. century: paintings, sculptures, furniture but also prints and drawings will be presented. 

A short survey of some hammer prices (without commission) of the October 2018 sale.

Although a selfportrait (lot 24) by Hubert Vos left the block for € 6500, and a work by David Oyens (lot 34) was sold for a swift € 3600, many roamntic paintings left unsold. 
Typical satirical 'monkey' paintings by Charles Verlat (lot 38) and/ or Jos Schippers (39, 40, 41) were sold resp. at € 6500, € 1400, € 2800 and € 3800.  

An 1871 canvas by Edwin Hayes, 'Smacks running for Scarborough' (lot 81) found a new owner for € 8000, whereas a most amusing 't Crediet is naar de dust' (lot 33) by Eduard de Jans was hammered at € 5500.  

Two marine painting by Constant Permeke (lots 271 and 272) from the legendary Jussiant collection sold resp. for € 2600 and € 3500. From the same collection also came an Albéric Collin panter (lot 190), making a stunning € 30000. 
Other Belgian artists worth mentioning: Léon De Smet (lot 247), 'Trees' sold for € 8000, Jean Brusselmans' 'Le Chenal' (lot 279), made € 8000 a.o..

A pair of Chinese porcelain vases (lot 145) climed to a stunning € 20000, a guilded 'Usnisavijaya' bronze (lot 159) took a well earned € 40000. 

Modern & Contemporary

'Mother and Child' (lot 304) by Joseph Glasco left not only the room but also the country for € 9000. Two Sadji paintings (lots 266 and 267) sold resp. for € 8000 and € 24000. 
Walter Leblanc stays in vogue. His '15PX18' (lot 310) sold swiftly for € 20000. The same goes for any early Panamarenko multiple, e.g. 'Meganeudon II' (lot 314), selling for € 8000. Fred Bervoets' 'Flight to Egypt' (lot 317, took a well deserved € 10000. 

This sale was heavily dominated, and not only by weight, by one lot, one table, by Ado Chale (lot 551), cast in bronze, that was sold for € 64000.

The auction week wraps up with an interesting 'Works on Paper' sale, Thursday October 11, starting at 2pm. 

Presenting about 500 items from very rare artist's books by 'Art & Language', the 'Xerox Book', to Matta-Clark's immaculate copy of 'Walls Paper' to Ed Ruscha's 'Records' and editions/ drawings by Lawrence Weiner, Robert Barry, André Cadere, Marcel Broodthaers, Dan Graham, Daniel Buren, Mario Merz, Giovanni Anselmo, Luciano Fabro …. to an exquisite collection of Jules De Bruycker prints, coloured proofs by James Ensor, drawings by Georges Lemmen, Léon Spilliaert, Rik Wouters, Eugeen Van Mieghem, Edgard Tytgat, Paul Joostens ….. and back to a most impressive coloured aquatint by the great Fred Bervoets, two Jan Schoonhoven drawings and one rare embossed print by him, and to an attractive collection of three rare Dirk Braeckman photographs.

On the more traditional side there was a strong offering of late 19th/ early 20th century prints by Jules De Bruycker, Henri Van Straten and James Ensor. From the latter one 17 prints were offered for sale. The ones taking not all but much of the attention: 'Le jardin d'amour' (lot 1117), 'La mare aux peupliers' (lot 1103) and 'Le roi Peste' (lot 1102), selling resp. for € 6000, € 6500 and € 3600. 

Post War items worth mentioning: Jean Dubuffet portfolio (lot 1346), € 3800 euros, On Kawara edition (lot 1065, € 2800), André Cadere's 'hand outs' (lot 1051, € 4000), Seth Siegelaub's 'Xerox Book' (lot 1040, € 2400), Bruce Nauman's 'Malice' print (lot 1420, € 4600), Marcel Broodthaers' 'Musée/ Museum' edition (lot 1384, € 5500, Lawrence Weiner drawing (lot 1324, € 6500), Marthe Wéry's 1976 edition (lot 1288, € 8000), Daniel Buren's 'D'une editon l'autre' (lot 1063, € 3400), Dirk Braeckman (lot 1508, € 5800), Giovanni Anselmo's 'Tutto' (lot 1390, € 2300) … .

The vast collection of photobooks from the collection of Johan Swinnen was a tough nu to crack, due, most probably to the quantity, and certainly not to the quality.
