Theme 
About 900 lots will be offered for sale on this Spring sale, with a special focus on paintings, sculptures and applied arts from the 19th century over the Art Deco period up till post war art. A small but exquisite Asian ensemble coming from two private collections brings a cloisonné mantlepiece (est. 15/20.000 €), a couple very imposing Lao Tsé statues (est. 8/10.000 €) and a very rare coral sculpture (est. 25/30.000 €) to the block. On the 19th century side there are some classical bronze sculptures by Egide Rombaux, Alphonse Maucquoy, H.E. Dumaige, Julien Dillens amongst others.

Those who are in for Art Deco will enjoy excellent work by Maurice Sys and Leon De Smet, beside work by Paul Joostens, Maurice Schelck, Julien Célos and Angelina Drumeaux. On the side of the applied arts there is an imposing vase by Charles Catteau and a few works by Lode Van Boeckel. 

Romantic pictures remain an stronghold at Bernaerts. This time we offer works by Louis Gallait, Petrus Van Schendel, Basile Lemeunier and a majestic five piece set by Petrus Norbertus van Reyschoot (est. 50/60.000 €).

On the Post War side there is the breathtaking 1961 painting on board ‘New York’ by Joseph Ongenae. This key work (est. 10/15.000 €), illustrated in the standard work by Michel Seuphor on Modern & Abstract art in Belgium, will draw much of the attention.

There is also a monumental Congo painting by Floris Jespers, ‘Négresses sur fond sombre’ (est. 10/15.000 €), a staggering Philippe Vandenberg from the mid eighties, a few works by Paul van Hoeydonck amongst others:
