Auction
17 to 19 June

The 50 Ways auction, alluding to Bernaerts’ 50th anniversary, contains a very diverse and high-quality selection of artworks. This summer prelude brings you an interplay between the Romantic and Modern Masters. As for the festivities surrounding the celebration, these will be unannounced and a surprise.

Among the classics in this auction, a finely brushed ‘Visit at the antique dealer’s’ by Joseph Lies stands out alongside a portrait by Edward Portielje, a scene with soldiers in mountainous landscape by Wilhelm Camphausen and a flower still life by Edward Van Rijswijck. A 19th-century porcelain Samson fishbowl also stands out for its size next to some memorabilia/curiosities by Willem Geets of Malines.

Among design furniture, we mention an interesting series of seven pieces of furniture by renowned Brussels designer Jules Wabbes. The wall coat rack from 1958 particularly catches the eye. A pair of T-chairs by Ole Wanscher or a pair of Butterfly Chairs by Pierre Paulin will also attract interest.

Also on offer will be works by Georges Vantongerloo, Sam Dillemans, Paul Van Hoeydonck, Renaat Ivens in addition to works on paper by Leon Spilliaert, Lucebert, Marcel Duchamp, Rem Koolhaas, Fred Bervoets, Jan Fabre, Dan Van Severen, Koen Vanmechelen, etc.

David Claerbout’s diptych ‘Olympia Stadium’ (2016) is certainly also worth mentioning here. Panamarenko is particularly represented, with close to 30 lots, ranging from posters, to an original building plan, some drawings, or a large canvas. The complete folder ‘Milkyways & Happenings’ will also come under the auction hammer – a rarity.

Perhaps the most striking lot is the installation ‘Table 2’ (2006) by Hans Op de Beeck, whose exhibition is also currently running at KMSKA.

The exhibition will also be partly curated by interior designer Gert Voorjans. In addition, craftsman/designer Karim Osmani will be presenting installations that welcome the summer.
Karim Osmani spent seven months in seclusion at the foot of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. There, he devoted himself entirely to creation and allowed himself to lose himself completely in the meditative process of creation and repetition. He supplemented his supply of plaster and polyester with materials he found in nature, such as stones, crystals and feathers. He also made his own tools. Everything was natural or reused. He emerged as a ‘storyteller’, inspired by the North African way of life and the impressions he gained during hour-long walks: insects, fruit, rocks, the effect of the strong mountain wind on nature. Following his mantra ‘the only continuity is change’, he continues his story and offers these works for auction.

David Claerbout (°1969). 'Olympia stadion', 2016. Diptych. Est.: €8000-12000
