Eve Beuvens solo (piano)

©MartaDeGracia
First, Eve Beuvens had an interest in the double bass, but at the age of thirteen she finally decided to play the piano. With a degree in philosophy already in her pocket, she enrolled at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels where she graduated with flying colours. The year was 2005. Four years later, she released her first CD with Igloo, featuring Joachim Badenhorst, Yannick Peeters and Lionel Beuvens. It immediately became clear that Eve Beuvens was not only a versatile pianist but also a versatile composer. Press and public were impressed by her fluent approach and poetic intensity, which resulted in several tours in Belgium, Norway and Germany. Her success with her quartet and her trio increased her self-confidence and she continued to link together the most diverse projects (Cezariusz Gadzina Quartet, Sidewinders, Alex Beaurain Quintet).

It was after one of her own initiatives during the 2013 Gaume Jazz Festival that the septet Heptatomic was formed with in its ranks Laurent Blondiau, Grégoire Tirtiaux, Sylvain Debaisieux, Benjamin Sauzereau, Manolo Cabras and Lionel Beuvens. The first album was released in 2015 (Igloo). With this calling card under its belt, the group toured across its own country but was also invited by many major festivals, as far away as France.

Since 2010 she has been working closely with Swedish saxophonist Mikael Godée, first in duo and then with a quartet. Performances in Sweden and Belgium followed, as did the CD ‘MEQ’ (Spookhuis, 2013). The quartet’s second CD was released after a series of concerts as part of Tournée Jazz organised by Les Lundis D’Hortense. They were also guests at the Belgian Jazz Meeting, which opened doors for them in Morocco, Italy, France and even further afield.
