CELLO FOR CHARITY

The Cello for Charity project wishes to express its support and to contribute mainly to Performers of classical music who are suffering greatly from this corona crisis. They do not need charity, but just support in their lives as independent musicians. Charity, to be understood as solidarity, is what we are asking of those who are suffering less from this crisis.

During the quiet corona period in 2020, Joris WOUTERS built a brand new cello. On February 18th at 6pm the instrument will be auctioned, together with various other art pieces and concerts. The proceeds will go to ArtistsUnited vzw to support musicians that were affected by the Covid-19 measures and also to a music academy in Mosoul (Iraq).

The cello is built with classic woods such as  Bohemian maple, pine, ebony and tuning pegs in rosewood. Somewhere hidden is a small piece of golden rain from the builder's garden.
The model used for the cello is derived from a drawing of Simone Sacconi (1895–1973), who in turn based himself on Stradivari patterns.

‘It's perhaps curious that the instrument will be sold at a public auction. But whoever buys the cello invests in a better world. I hope the cello ends up with a musician who can make the instrument sing and make the world sound a little better. I will sleep easier when that happens'.  (Joris Wouters)
More information about this cello can be found on the website of Joris.

Ambassador and famous cellist Roel DIELTIENS:
'Violin makers regularly come to my house to ask for my opinion on their instruments. It goes without saying that all those luthiers differ in quality. That is why I am so pleased that Joris Wouters is now donating a cello to Cello for Charity, because he simply is one of the very best that I have met worldwide.'

Mischa MAISKY played the cello:
‘I have to admit, the instrument is easier to play than mine (…). She is also so different: light colour (due to the varnish) and a true ‘tenore’ (with a clear higher range). I can only say bravo: bravo!’
